一、课程介绍(含教学目标、教学要求等)300字以内)


本课程重点论述数字通信的技术基础和最新应用。全教程共分15讲,详细阐述了数字通信系统的基本信号变换、信号处理步骤、基带信号及高斯噪声中的信号检测、带通信号及其调制和解调技术、链路分析、各种信道编码方法、网格编码调制、同步问题、多路复用和多址接入、扩频技术及其应用、信源编码以及基本的加密/解密方法、衰落信道等。

 教学中结合教材配套ELANIX设计软件SyetemView的教育版本光盘,突出基本概念及通信系统的软件仿真实践训练,通过课程的理论学习和实践操作,使同学们对数字通信有比较全面、系统的基础与应用知识,为工科研究生进入通信与信息领域的课题研究提供基本的专业知识指导。

 课程将系统全面地学习数字通信的基本原理和最新技术,将包括信号及频谱、格式化和基带调制、基带信号的解调和检测、带通调制和解调、通信链路分析、信道编码、调制和编码权衡、同步、多路复用和多址接入、扩频技术、信源编码、加密和解密、衰落信道等内容。具体讲解时,会有所取舍,以大量的实验突出重点概念的掌握与应用。

四、主讲教师简介:

徐平平 博士、教授、博导,女,19574月生,19821月本校无线电技术专业本科毕业留校并在职获得本学科博士学位任教至今。1996-2000年二次赴日本爱工大和日本大阪大学访问研究。先后承担数字电路、通信原理、数字通信技术、新一代无线网络等本科、硕士、博士课程的教学,获授课竞赛、教学成果、精品课程、教育科研等多个奖项。研究成果发表学术论文60余篇,编、译著3部,专利15项,部省市科技奖3项。兼任全国标准化技术委员会WPAN/WSN/UWB组专家委员,中国通信学会高级会员、IEEEIEICE会员,NSRF基金博士点基金国家科技奖励基金及通信与信息领域主要核心期刊评审委员。目前主要研究领域超宽带高速无线通信,移动自组织网络,无线传感器网络。

  1. Course Introduction (including teaching goals and requirements) within 300 words:


This course presents the ideas and techniques fundamental to digital communicationsystems. Emphasis is placed on system design goals and on the need for trade-offsamong basic system parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), probability oferror, and bandwidth expenditure. We shall deal with the transmission of information(voice, video, or data) over a path (channel) that may consist of wires, waveguides, or space.

A compact disc (CD) containing an educational version of the design software SystemView by ELANIXaccompanies the textbook. The CD contains a workbook with over 200 exercises, as well as a concise tutorial on digital signal processing (DSP). CD exercises in the workbook reinforce material in the textbook; concepts can be explored by viewing waveforms with a windows-based PC and by changing parameters to see the effects onthe overall system. Some of the exercises provide basic training in usingSystemView; others provide additional training in DSP techniques.



  1. Teaching Syllabus (including the content of chapters and sections. A sheet can be attached):

The course develops digital communications techniques in the context of a unified structure. Thestructure, in block diagram form, appears at the beginning of each chapter; blocks inthe diagram are emphasized, when appropriate, to correspond to the subject of thatchapter. Major purposes of the course are to add organization and structure to a field

that has grown and continues to grow rapidly, and to insure awareness of the “big picture” even while delving into the details. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on system goals and the need to trade off basic system parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio, probability of error, and bandwidth expenditure.


Chapter 1 introduces the overall digital communication system and the basic signaltransformations that are highlighted in subsequent chapters. Some basic ideas ofrandom variables and the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) model are reviewed.

Chapter2 covers the signal processing step, known as formatting, in order to render aninformation signal compatible with a digital system.

Chapter 3 emphasizes basebandsignaling, the detection of signals in Gaussian noise, and receiver optimization.

Chapter 4 deals with bandpass signaling and its associated modulation anddemodulation/detection techniques.

Chapter 5 deals with link analysis, an important

subject for providing overall system insight; it considers some subtletiesthat are often missed.

Chapters 6, 7, and 8 deal with channel coding—a costeffectiveway of providing a variety of system performance trade-offs.

Chapter 9 considers various modulation/coding system trade-offs dealing withprobability of bit-error performance, bandwidth efficiency, and signal-to-noiseratio.

Chapter 10 deals with synchronization for digital systems.

Chapter 11 treats multiplexing and multiple access. It explores techniques thatare available for utilizing the communication resource efficiently.

Chapter 12 introducesspread spectrum techniques and their application in such areas as multipleaccess, ranging, and interference rejection. This technology is important for bothmilitary and commercial applications.

Chapter 13 deals with source coding which isa special class of data formatting. Both formatting and source coding involve digitizationof data;

Chapter 14 covers basicencryption/decryption ideas. It includes some classical concepts, as well as a class ofsystems called public key cryptosystems, and the widely used E-mail encryptionsoftware known as Pretty Good Privacy (PGP).

Chapter 15 deals with fading channels.

  1. Brief Introduction of Chief lecturer:


XU Ping-ping is now a professor of National Mobile Communications Lab of Southeast University. She received the B.S., M.S and PhD degree from Southeast University. She was a guest researcher in AIT and Osaka University in Japan at 1997&2000 respectively. She has published more than 50 papers, 3 books, 12 patents and obtained 3 sciences prizes in above areas. Currently, her research focuses in UWB Communication, WLAN/WPAN, WSN and Mobile Ad hoc Network areas.
