The Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES) Symposium is the annual conference hosted by the International Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society, focusing on computational electromagnetics methods for diverse applications in electromagnetic science and engineering. It serves as a platform to share innovative ideas and present new advances in the modeling and simulation of challenging AP/MTT/EMC/EPT related engineering problems, aiming to stimulate extensive discussions and explorations of disruptive ACE technologies.
2026 IEEE International Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society Symposium (ACES-China 2026) is organized by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) Qingdao Research Institute, and co-organized by Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), Harbin Engineering University (HEU) and Ceyear Technologies Co. Ltd.
During the conference, Master Beichen Cao presented the research paper entitled *Miniaturized Dual-Feed Slotted Patch Antenna Design for 915 MHz RFID Systems* in the form of a **poster presentation**.
To address the urgent demand for compact integration and flexible polarization adaptation of UHF RFID reader antennas in industrial scenarios, this work proposes and validates an innovative composite miniaturization design strategy. By combining a high permittivity composite substrate with slot loading technology and adopting an orthogonally arranged through hole dual feed structure, the design achieves substantial reduction of the antenna’s physical footprint and flexible switching between polarization modes. This strategy effectively extends the equivalent current path of the radiating patch within an extremely small substrate area, and supports two operation modes: linear polarization under single port excitation and circular polarization under dual port excitation with a 90° phase difference. It resolves the typical limitations of conventional miniaturized antennas, including bandwidth shrinkage, gain degradation and limited polarization diversity.
Simulation and measurement results show that the antenna operates in the 915MHz ISM band with an overall size of only 65mm×35mm. The reflection coefficients of both ports are below −11dB, and port isolation exceeds 20dB across the full band, ensuring independent and stable operation of the two feed ports. In dual feed mode, the 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth fully covers the target band, with a peak circularly polarized gain of 2.45dBi and a boresight cross polarization level below −13.2dB, maintaining excellent impedance matching and radiation performance despite the highly compact form factor. Parametric studies further confirm that slot dimensions and feed positions can independently tune the resonant characteristics of the two orthogonal ports, verifying the tuning flexibility and performance robustness of the dual feed architecture. These results demonstrate the broad application potential of the proposed miniaturized dual feed slotted antenna in space constrained embedded RFID terminals, industrial production equipment and fixed reader modules.
Following the poster presentation, attending scholars held in depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as the antenna’s scalability to other frequency bands, its performance stability in complex industrial environments, and fabrication consistency for mass production. This conference presentation not only showcases Southeast University’s latest research advances in RF antennas and microwave systems to the international community, but also provides valuable insights for the research group’s future work on performance optimization and industrial translation of miniaturized antenna technologies.
