The 20th Cross-Strait Information Technology Seminar Was Convened at Southeast University

On October 18, the 20th Cross-Strait Information Technology Seminar (CSIT2018) was convened at Sipailou Campus of Southeast University. President Zhang Guangjun of Southeast University and President Zhou Jingyang of National Central University expressed their wishes to the seminar respectively. They expected both parties could continue the close connections and extend the exchanges and interactions to a wider range of areas so as to promote cooperation between the two universities in an overall and in-depth manner. Ren Lijian, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee of Southeast University, and Xu Guokai, Chief Secretary of National Central University addressed the seminar respectively. The opening ceremony was hosted by Luo Junzhou, Dean of School of Computer Science and Engineering and School of Software, Southeast University. 

The seminar themed as Intelligent Computing, Leading the Future included three sub-forums regarding information engineering, circuit electronics and artificial intelligence. The seminar covered artificial intelligence and its applications, future network and industrial Internet, mobile Internet and Internet of Things (IoT), big data and cloud, etc.. Nearly one hundred participants including experts, scholars and students’ representatives from National Central University, Taiwan University, Taiwan Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan Tamkang University, Taiwan Shude University of Science and Technology, Southeast University, Nanjing University, Hunan University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, etc. attended the meeting.

The seminar also set up the Cross-Strait Dean's Forum, hosted by Fan Guoqing, Dean of the School of Information and Electrical Engineering of National Central University. Deans in the field of information from universities across Taiwan Strait may exchange their information and experience on the development and discipline of their respective colleges, talent cultivation and practical teaching, scientific research, exchanges and cooperation, etc.

During the seminar, Deputy Secretary Ren Lijian of Southeast University and Chief Secretary Xu Guokai of National Central University awarded the honorary title of “Special Contributor to the 20th Anniversary of the Seminar” to four winners and presented the award speech in recognition of their unremitting efforts and outstanding contributions to deepening academic exchanges across the strait and continuous development of the cross-strait relationship. Ding Hui, Chief Accountant of Southeast University, met with the Taiwan delegation which attended the seminar at Nanjing.

In order to celebrate the successful convening of these series of seminars, the organizing committee also specially compiled an album to memorize the 20th anniversary of the seminar and convened a cross-strait friendship symposium, where more than 30 teachers across the strait who once attended the meeting reunited and recalled the past. When they were looking forward to the future, all sorts of feelings welled up in their mind.

The Cross-Strait Information Technology Seminar was initiated by Mr. Yu Chuantao, former Board Chairman of National Central University, Mr. Liu Zhaohan, former President of the University and the deceased Academician Gu Guanqun, former President of Southeast University for the two universities shared the same root. The seminar was organized by higher education institutions across the strait in turn since 1999 when it was firstly convened at National Central University. This year witnessed the 20th anniversary of the meeting. Up to now, the seminar has functioned as an important platform for experts in the field of information technology to exchange business and feelings.
